t-minus 2 days

Okay so I have never done this before, (blogging that is) and since I am going to be isolated from the real world for 7 days, I might have something on my mind that I need the world to hear.

So your first question probably is, "Why are you isolated from the world for 7 days?"
The answer is simple.  I am going to be radioactive from a medical procedure, to destroy my thyroid gland!  Cool eh?  Then while the thyroid gland is dying (it actually takes about 3 months) the specialist is going to monitor my thyroid hormone levels through blood tests, and put me on a thyroid hormone replacement drug.

So your next question probably sounds like this, "Why are you destroying your thyroid?"
This answer is simple too.  I have Graves Disease.
Here is a link describing Graves and its effects.

It doesnt sound so bad, until you have actually lived with it.  Just ask anyone who has had it or maybe still battling it.  One good thing about it is I have lost 45lbs doing absolutely nothing!

About 2 years ago, I was on antidepressants.  My doctor thought I was depressed, but knowing what I know now, it was probably from early stages of Graves.  I decided about a year ago, (on my 30th Birthday) that I didnt want to be on the antidepressants, and like any other person, decided to take myself off them.
I was fine until a few weeks later, when I started getting tremors in my hands and I started feeling anxious.  I thought it was just anxiety, and would take a couple deep breathes to try to calm down and relax.  Well as time went by, it got worst.  I was getting tremors in my legs so bad and then started feeling it in my torso.  Also, my heart felt it was going to beat right out of my chest.  Why didnt I go to the Doctors?  I hate Doctors and especially mine, since he likes to yell at me and I was in no condition to get yelled at.
It wasnt until I over heated while driving the bus and had to book off sick on the road.  I then decided to go to the Doctors.  Well, he just said it was heat exhaustion, but wanted to do a blood test anyways.  About 2 weeks later, he finally calls me back in with the results of my blood tests.  The Doctor says to me, "Your blood tests are way off!", in which I reply, "Okay?!?"  He then yells at me, "Dont say okay, its not okay!"  I sat silent in fear of getting yelled at again!  LMAO
Well, long story short, more blood tests ordered, overactive thyroid, nuclear scans at McMaster Hospital, seeing the Specialist, telling me I have Graves, wants me to do radioactive iodine, I am scared and decide to do medicine that slows the thyroid iodine intake, then doing research and asking others opinions, decide to do radioactive iodine, book for January 25, 2011 at 1:15pm at McMaster Nuclear Medicine.
The year of 2010 was hell!  I did get some relief in the months of October to Present through the medication but still not feeling well.  Plus this current past week has been bad, since I had to come off the medication, so the radioactive iodine would be effective.

Pretty interesting story eh?  Well, its far from over, and once they regulate my thyroid hormone levels, I might actually feel good again.

So, 2 more days to go,

Signing off,

Joe Cipolla
